Banana and Nutella Empanadas by claremanson Banana and Nutella Empanadas by claremanson
Gluten free banana and nutella empanadas sprinkled with sugar.

I had a new jar of Nutella on my shelf for a weeks now so I thought it about time I try something new with it so, off to google images I went and found a recipe for these. I am forever baking cakes, cookies and cupcakes so fancied a bit of a change. They were pretty simple to make, the only thing is the assembling, wrapping and marking the dough was the most time consuming as I made several small ones so if I were to make it again I would get my husband to help.

I hate banana with a passion but still wanted to make them gluten free to see if the flour would still work with the recipe. Cakes and cookies are fine with GF flour but now I am starting to try new things I am beginning to find recipes that do not work so well with it. Because of my hate for bananas I wouldn't even have a bite but my family soon ate them all up, my eldest going as far as to say "these are the best thing you have ever baked" My husband said that was going a bit for but they were really good. Now I know the recipe works wonderfully and local strawberries are in season I might just have to make them again so I can eat them with a fruit I do like!

Another great thing is you can freeze them before baking for a month so you can make them plenty ahead of time if you were making them for a certain occasion.

I like empanadas... :) they make a savory one in my hometown with heart of palm and the dough is whole wheat, which every time I go back home I need to have some! :D

It's kinda weird to describe... Let's see. It's white and soft but not too soft, and kinda juicy but not drippy... the flavor is different than most things, it sort of blends in with other things but gives it an extra yummy factor. Wow, I never thought I'd have such a hard time describing it! lol ;D

These look absolutely adorable. Going to try swapping them out with strawberries as my boyfriend isn't a fan of banana either. The dough is currently chilling in the fridge!

Hello! I'm not really a baker, but I wanted to make these for my choir group because every Sunday, we go to school to help set up bingo. It's really tedious and tiring, so I'm sure they would like something cute like this.
Since I'm not a baker, I wanted to ask, if I wanted to use other fruits, would I have to alter the way I bake, or can I just add whatever fruit I want without worrying about the process?

Juicy fruits like berries maybe a bit of an issue as all the juice could possibly make the dough soggy at the bottom so it would be a good idea to make a try batch of them to see what happens.

Oh, I see!
So things like strawberries and apples? What would you have to do to... I guess make them dry?

Have you ever made apple pie? There are different ways people try to make the base not so soggy when it cooks, coating the fruits in flour to absorb the juice or adding an extra thin layer of dough to the base are just a couple of the things people try that I can think of right now, do a little search on google for more ways :)

Me too, it really helps when the ingredients are hidden away so you can't tell from the photo what is supposed to be in them.

The smell of banana is enough to put me off them! It's even worse when they are baking but it was worth it though, the family loved them.
