Chocolate Chip and Honey Porridge by claremanson Chocolate Chip and Honey Porridge by claremanson
Honey and Chocolate Chip Porridge made with toasted spelt flakes and milk.

Spelt flakes was another ingredeint I was given as a gift that I have never used before so, for my first cook with it I decided to go simple.  It's now getting very cold and very dark outside so, I thought this would make a nice warm and soothing breakfast for my kids.  They have never been much of a fan of normal oat porridge but this they loved and have asked to have every day since with various toppings.

Mmmm does this look delicious. I've never had porridge before. Is it the same as oatmeal?

You could try it with home-made! But the ones made in cafe or restaurants taste better, in my opinion.

I guess it's something they make all the time so have had a lot of time to perfect the recipe :)

You're right! Though, home-made ones are pretty much filled with love, well, how much they put their effort and sincerity in it, that counts :)

This looks so great. I love porridge, but I've never heard of Spelt flakes...

I hadn't either until I wa given them! They are a lot rougher in texture than oats and come out a lot thicker.

So what exactly are they? And do you have to toast them yourself or can you just add them to porridge and away you go?

Honestly I don't really know! They came toasted with the instructions on how to make porridge wit them on the side, all I know is they are a very old wheat product which used to be used a lot many years ago and still is is some countries.

What do you like with your porridge?

Normally, I just put a bit of brown sugar or some cinnamon to add some sweetness and flavour to it. I'll also put strawberries or bananas in it (like I do with everything, it's my favorite favorite combination
