Chocolate Easter Egg by claremanson Chocolate Easter Egg by claremanson
A small white chocolate Easter Egg coloured green and two shades of blue.

A gift for my eldest daughters school teacher, made in the colours of the class toy Diamond The Dinosaur, each kid takes turns taking him home every day to stay the night. This weekend was Sarah's turn which gave me the idea for the colours.

This is the first time I have made my own chocolate eggs so I sure did learn a lot! So, if you have never made them before but want too, make a trial batch first to get some practice.

TIPS:
:bulletgreen: Do not make the chocolate shells too thin or they will break when removed from the mold.
:bulletgreen: When melting chocolate on the stove do not let your water get too hot or your chocolate will burn.
:bulletgreen: If your chocolate starts to go grainy add a touch of vegtable oil a few drops at a time, keep stirring and adding until it's back to a smooth consistency.
:bulletgreen: For something extra special, make some little chocolate to go inside before gluing the shell together.

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE.

I had to come find your eggses (I'm so failing at keeping up with my inbox) - it's so bright and colourful. Lovely job, particularly for your first try. The first time is always such a learning curve haha.

Once you get a bit more practise, you'll find you can make the shells really thin and they won't break.

Ah if that is the case then maybe it was because of the silicone mold that made it break, too much flexibility.

It's usually a property of the chocolate itself. It needs to be either tempered properly or frozen -- then you can make it do whatever you want! :evillaugh:

I guess practice makes perfect and having to force myself to practice with chocolate is never a bad thing ;)

i have many chocoholics around me to help my enthusiasm!
I am going to try your choc chip hot cross buns tomorrow, I am so excited about it as I have never used yeast before. If they go well I am going to make some pizza dough with the other sachets :)

Awesome! Just remember to make sure your yeast is alive and kicking before moving on (I've made that mistake before and it's so depressing after three hours of work!). I don't use thermometers when I heat the milk but the best way is to test the warmed milk on your wrist (if you ever bottle fed you'll already be pro). If it burns you it'll kill the yeast.

A lot of people have bad first times with yeast and get too scared to try again. But it's really very easy if you proof it correctly. I'm sure you'll rock it!

they are resting right now. I divided the mixture into two, half gluten free, half normal flour. I do not hold much hope for the gluten free one, despite having the same quantities looks very dry, the one with normal flour is looking good though. Another 35 minutes or so and it will be choc chip time.

:giggle: They never used to be, I never really bothered much with baking or cooking for any holidays until last year when I really started to get confident at baking, now all the stress that used to come from such times has turned into so much fun.

It's a lovely school, my dad has been working there since I was 2 so I have always loved the place even though I never went there myself I knew the teachers are lovely. Now I also know they are great at teaching too!
Diamond also comes with a diary so the kids can draw, add photos and write about what they did with Diamond. It's great to read everyone's entries, you learn a lot about the other kids and their parents, almost all of them have either an xbox, wii, ds or ps3 by the looks of it!

:giggle: In winter I can totally understand, especially if there is no snow outside. But in summer - I hope kids go out and enjoy the green! ( Poor teacher who' gotta read : Diamond and I played PS, Diamond and I played Wii, Diamond and I played Nintendo.... Diamond and i baked cookies with mom - Oh wow! Finally something real! - Ps. Diamond ate half the dough so Mom had to make an extra load :) ) :giggle:

we rarely get snow just rain here, my kids hate the snow anyway.
Sarah did write she played Hello Kitty on the DS and played games on the computer with Diamond too! We have most of the consoles mentioned before but I kick my husband and Sarah off after an hour of gaming a day because of their epilepsy, it's a big trigger for my husband. Roll on for better weather when we can go to the park.

Video games are cute with the lights and stuff but yeah, I read a few warnings that it can trigger epileptic episodes in those with it. (And I am tempted to say give brain epilepsy to those who don,t have it yet)

he he he, I am a girl gamer myself but never could be one of those hardcore gamers like a friend of mine. Games is all he ever talks about, at 30 years old that is all he seems to have in his life, he seems to prefer the fantasy world rather than reality yet moans he has nothing to show for his life so far!

 ahan! I'm epic fail at games. Discovered them too late (25 ish or later) and I suck at them! lol I'm good at .. zuma sort of games or gem flipping. I played a bit of UT 2004 but i couldn't get past level 0 of Dante's Inferno. I'm randomly decent at snowboarding games (SSX) but I have No clue what I'm doing so ... I give credit for awesome game coders :XD:
