Gluten Free Sponge Cake by claremanson Gluten Free Sponge Cake by claremanson
My first cake make with gluten free flour and baking powder! I was so shocked at how like a normal cake it tasted, the chocolate layer in particular is no difference in taste at all, the bottom layer just a slight difference but you would never notice that unless you were told it was gluten free.

As it was an experiment i made half the cake chocolate and the other regular, filled with vanilla butter cream and topped with melted easter egg. I treated the flour just like normal flour and had no problems with it at all.

A gluten free lifestyle is not healthier, but it makes a nice picture.

It's healthier to those of us who can not eat gluten for medical reasons, though who use it as some sort of fad diet really though...

I was talking about people who eat it to look cool. Also, I think you're confusing words with other words.

thank you :) I was surprised it tasted just like a normal cake! I still use that recipe now for everything but chocolate cake, for that i use a very moist and rich recipe.

well i have only made two things so far with the GF flour, this and Sasha's Pikachu cake, next i am going to try a tart or some cookies, also going to try to do some desserts that don't need flour like mousses and creme brulee

I like that you stacked the cakes. It's a bit naughty, but what cake isn't?

Well, I don't know if its useful, but I have a recipe for a Chocolate-Cake completly without flour. So, maybe, if you want to, I can send a Note and you can try. :D
Other than that, it is a pain, to go through your gallery, when trying to lose weight. *laughs* (Take it as a compliment ;-) )

sounds interesting, i would love the recipe thank you as long as it is not a nut thing like ground almonds or anything, nuts and my IBS do not mix well!
My gallery should really come with a warning for dieters! :giggle:

White rice, brown rice, or sweet rice flour? My favorite GF blend is brown rice, garbanzo bean, and tapioca flour. (I'm a professional pastry chef and I've recently found how easy it is to do GF. I'm fascinated by how easy it is!) But I love looking at your work- it all looks delicious! Keep up the amazing work!

white rice flour i believe, i have never heard of garbanzo bean before. I was expecting to have to throw away all my old recipes for special new gluten free ones but if this cake is anything to go by i can just replace the normal for GF flour which is such a relief as i have only been baking a year and a half and have only just started to really learn, get used to and get the confidence in trying to bake new things.

it tastes just like a normal cake! i gave some to my dad this morning without telling him it's gluten free, when i see him again on Thursday i will ask how it was :giggle:
It looks like normal flour just seems finer and a little lighter. I treated it just like normal flour, no problems.

yes i will, sending carl shopping after work as i used up some of the cake ingredients to make this trial cake, might make a start on it tonight if not tomorrow morning as i need it to dry out for at least 6-9 hours, i don't want it all fresh and crumbly and have another Sarah Barbie cake incident! that's the thing I'm worried about the most.
