Semi Orange Trifle by claremanson Semi Orange Trifle by claremanson
I call it a semi trifle because to me a proper trifle must have whipped cream, several layers and ideally in my family if there is time jelly (or jello to you Americans)

As i said in a recent journal post i don't have much time for baking at the moment. I had some eggs needing to be used up so yesterday made a simple vanilla sponge when i had a spare 5 minutes so that i could store and use for other things over the coming days. Today a 5 minute semi-trifle made at 6am this morning as a little treat to go in my eldest daughters lunch box today. Sponge pieces soaked in a little juice of the tinned oranges used, marmalade, tinned custard and a little grated dark chocolate on top.

I do have a recipe for trifle, my favourite kind, strawberry [link]

I have GOT to stop looking at your stuff before I eat.
I love trifle. This looks so delightfully yummy.

I can actually do without the jello. But either way is god for me!

If I'm in a hurry, i don't bother with the jello but i do love the extra flavour and texture it brings :)

I've heard the word trifle before (in Harry Potter) but I don't know what it means. It looks pretty tasty though ;D

I don't know what a trifle is nor have I had one but this certainly looks tasty. I bet those spongey pieces tasted orangey. :D

It's very similar to what the Americans call a parfait really but not the frozen kind and with added custard.

Your daughter is so lucky! I've never seen a trife made with oranges. As an adult, I would probably spike the sponge cake with a little Grand Marnier! :orange:

my grandma hates cooking and baking but always would make orange trifle when i was younger so it's kind of normal for me but i much prefer using berries.
