Snacks from the UK by claremanson Snacks from the UK by claremanson
I thought I would expand on the photo I shared yesterday of Cadburys chocolate bars by sharing some more photos to show you all how different food can be in different countries after some of you thought it was very strange I wanted to try American food. So, I took a few sneaky photos on my phone while shopping today (sorry they are not great, i am much too shy to photograph in public with my Canon! and made sure no one was looking)

We don't use words like candy and potato chips over here, it's crisps, chocolate bars and sweets. It's the same with drinks, we don't have Soda, we have fizzy drinks and squash (no not the food, it is a drink you add water too to dilute, we don't have powder like Kool-Aid) Also we call stores, shops and have supermarkets not grocery stores etc. We don't have Walmart or anything like that, people on DA tell me to go to Walmart all the time but I can't! :giggle: The major supermarkets we have here are ASDA, Sainsburys, Morrisons and Tesco. The shops you see in the photos are Iceland, Wilkinsons and Poundland.

Yes I know, Easter is a while away but seriously the 1st of January comes and the shops start stocking Easter Eggs! Those pictured are just the small snack size bags you can get, the bigger Easter Eggs will be in the shops soon though.

You should be glad you don't have Walmart! They pay minimum wage and are mean to their workers, so I've heard. I bet it's much better in the UK.

apparently our ASDA is part of Walmart, that explains their range of Hersheys and Fruit Loops but that's all they have.

Btw, I feel bad for all you people in the UK. Those sweets look pretty gross, though the chips and stuff (Crisps? It's cool that you guys have one word for all of that.) look good, if different from what we have in the US.

That's cool. I had no idea that you lived in the UK. Sometimes I wish I can find someone who can send me treats over there so I can send treats from the US over there. I think that would be fun :D.

What is this I don't even...Hnnng explosion of snackies! :XD:

One of my supermarkets here used to have something similar to the set up way at the top. Alas they got rid of it. :/

The crisps after the Transform a Snack on row two look very similar to the Lays brand. Same colors and logo (albeit different name). =p

Lucky you get to snack on those Cadbury eggs whenever you desire. We have to wait till Easter time over here. :XD:

DON'T GO TO WALMART! just don't...not a good corporation. on the lighter side, this is so cool! the only thing that looks familiar is "Walkers" (?), which must be the same thing as Lay's potato chips because the logo and bag are exactly the same. and we don't have easter stuff up yet, but literally the day after christmas, not even 2013 yet!, and the stores had valentine's day stuff up! ridiculous! ;)

Your selection is a lot better than here in Canada, at the very least, more interesting! Those crisps in the picture, the 'Walkers' look like a rip off from Lays, or vice versa.... Sigh, all those sweets!

Easter eggs already?! A biiit early. Although it makes me laugh that Creme Egg is only around until 31st March. Easter Monday's in April!

Also, while I'm ranting, a 6 pack of Freddos for 1?! I am going to sound soooooo old, but they used to be 10p! I remember being quite outraged when they went up to 15p. I used to buy one every day when I was at school, but I boycotted them after that :XD: (Lol, I've just seen the other comments about 10p Freddos. Cadburys should be ashamed!)

I miss Woolworths and their pick & mix. It's not the same from Tescos or WHSmith.

As yes Freddos, very annoying, also i have been told that fruit salads and black jacks are no longer 1p each! not happy.

Oh yes Woolworths pick and mix, they were good.

Great photos, Claire.

It's come to my attention that a number of department stores and even supermarkets have started selling American products such as Reese's and Hershey's. I even managed to spot a few cereals such as Lucky Charms and Apple Jacks.

Going off topic slightly here, but I've noticed a lot of fast food chains like Wendy's and Taco Bell have disappeared fron UK shores. I used to go to Wendy's a lot when I was younger, I seemed to like it better than Mcdonald's.

Reese's has been out a while and ASDA have a small range of Hersheys and recently Fruit Loops, not seen the other things, maybe it just depends where you live, i live in a small town, the nearest city is an hours drive away.

I remember Wendys being in a big sea side town near me but we never went, looked great though, never knew Taco Bell was here.
