The Christmas holidays are over and the kids are back at school.  This would normally mean getting back to baking but instead it means getting back to decorating our new house.
The whole house which we moved into a month ago needs a complete make over, head to toe.  We started the first rooms last week, the living and dining room.  Gone with the 20 year old discoloured wallpaper that was peeling off the walls and on with the paint.  We have chosen a colour called Muddy Puddle for the main colour, trust me it is a lot better than it sounds! A light browny/malty chocolatey colour that compliments the feature colour we are using either side of the chimneys called Teal Tension which is a very dark and rich teal. We probably have a couple more weeks left until it is all painted as not only did the walls need a lot of work (it was bare concrete and plaster under the wallpaper so never painted before so needed a lot of smoothing down and filler) but all the skirting boards, coving and ceilings need painting.  We are decorating the living and dining room together as they are joined by an archway and currently look silly being decorated differently so we feel they need to flow.

I really fancy doing a bit of baking next week.  Last week I made my first ever coffee cake (I don't like drinking coffee) so I really want to bake something else I have never baked before but I really can't think of any.  If anyone has any ideas, they have to be quick, simple and use mostly basic ingredients mind please do let me know. What do you like to bake after a long stay away from the kitchen?

Hello! How is everyone? Long time no speak!

As a lot of you know my family and I moved house on November the 29th so have been without the internet for a couple of weeks.  On Friday we got it back. yay.

The move went well, we are kind of experienced at the whole moving thing by now, it being the second time we have moved house in seven months.  We have been here for a couple of weeks now, we are all starting to settle in nicely although it still doesn't feel quite like home yet and probably won't until we have decorated the house which we have started in the dining and front rooms by stripping off half the wallpaper.  Those of you who follow my page on facebook will know I also bought a new cooker for the house and was really excited to started baking with it.  Well, I have to say I am not disappointed, I love my new oven.

The Christmas holidays begins here in a few days so I will be pretty much offline again for a couple of weeks while the kids are home until after the holidays unless of course I make something I get particularly over excited about and can not wait to upload it beforehand.

Merry Christmas everyone.

As some of you already know, six months ago we moved to a rented house while so we could sell our house and buy a new one.  In September we were able to start house hunting.  After just five days of actively looking and three different house viewings we found our house.  My husband was shocked, I was also to be honest to find a house I liked so quickly, we thought it may take months as I am very picky but this house ticked most of the boxes and the rest were things I could compromise on in the grand scheme of things.  My dad always said since the start we may be in a new house by Christmas, I just laughed at him, I never thought that would happen but he was right.

We are moving just two minutes away from our current rented house.  For the first time we get a grassed garden, we have always have paved courtyard gardens which the kids and I hated so as soon as I told them we have grass they were so happy.  Next I told them even better news, they get their own bedrooms.  Up until now they have always had to share, being so very different from each other they are going to love their own space, especially my eldest daughter.
For the first time ever I have a nice U shaped kitchen, I have always had gallery kitchens which make things very tricky when you have kids trying to run past all the time while you have the oven door open.  The kitchen is the room that is going to need the most work as it's over 20 years old, very dated and really not to my taste but that won't be done straight away.  It does have a fun little hatch in the wall to the dining room which I may make bigger to let more light into the dining room. I do need to buy a new cooker straight away though as it doesn't have one which is going to be a big decision as it really needs to be good for baking and withstand me cooking once, twice, sometimes even three times a day so lots of research will be required.
The front room has a huge bay window which I love so much and the whole place really has lots of character being built in the 1920-1930s.

Next week I will have one last baking photo to share with you before we move house the following week. I will probably have no time to bake at all during the upheaval and maybe without the internet for a little while also. Fingers crossed though I will be back in the kitchen before Christmas so I can baking some homemade Christmas gifts I have planned.
Hello everyone! How are you all doing?
It's been a while since I've done this so I thought I would get you up to date with everything and why I am still only semi active here.
Well, my youngest is now full time at school since starting in September, I thought that would mean more time for DA but it really hasn't turned out that way so far.  On Tuesdays I've started counseling for my anxiety and depression, I know a lot of people who don't like to talk about and admit things like that but I think it's important to get it out there to show it's fine to ask for help if you need it, which I really have. Also for the past 4 weeks I have been going to a 10 week Positive Thinking group course on Fridays which has so far been really good and I've met some great people (I even took in some cake and cookies for them today which they loved, yay)
Destiny came out last month on the PS4 so I have been glued to playing that, though it's getting a little boring and repetitive now.
Even with all that going on I am still baking, at least once a week in fact but apart from the recent shortbread I have posted on here I have just been baking the usual stuff so nothing new to photograph just yet though I am planning to try out something new soon though I will not be doing any Halloween themed baking this year, I did loads last year though which is in my gallery if you need inspiration.

I am totally stunned by the news of the passing of Robin Williams.   I don't normally get very emotional about celebrities but I really am upset and shaken by this, lots of tears today.
He was and will always remain a legend in so many ways.  I grew up watching him in one of my favourite Disney movies as a kid, Aladdin and of course Jumanji, Hook, Mrs Doubtfire and so many other movies, he was so diverse I loved his comedy and serious roles.  Even if I didn't like a particular movie he starred in very much he would always be awesome and would make it worth watching as he had such a great and unique voice and wonderful energy and talent.
This morning the kids and I watched Robots, the first movie of his I could find as our little tribute to him.
R.I.P Robin Williams, you will be sorely missed.
That's right! Back on August 10th 2004 I joined Deviantart after an online friend showed me the site.  At first I joined to submit my sketches and poems, most of which have long been deleted because they were so bad! Over the years I have tried so many art genres (some still remain in my gallery in various folders) before falling in love with baking and food photography a few years ago.

I know I have been rather quiet on here over the past year, I'm still battling my demons of depression and anxiety, which has got so much worse since losing my Grandma in May. I have now got to the point where I am considering medication as I feel so ill all the time, the physical stress of anxiety and depression on my body makes me so tired and lightheaded all the time which means I have no energy or interest in baking or doing anything that involves a lot of walking around or being on my feet as it's just so exhausting.

On to something a little more uplifting. Some of you I have been chatting to for years, others are brand new watchers (Hi there!) So, why don't you copy and paste the following into the comments or your own journal with your answers so we can all get to know each other a little better.

The six weeks holidays will be starting at the end of this week, that means I will be going rather quiet again on DA as I will have both kids at home with me so will have less time for DA.

Everyone have a wonderful summer, keep up the good work and I will be back properly again the beginning of October once everything is sttled down with the new school year to catch up on everyone's uploads and messages.  If you have any baking questions head on over and ask them on my facebook page where I receive notifications of messages on my phone so can get back to you a lot quicker as the kids will probably be hogging the laptop most days watching videos of Frozen on YouTube constantly.

Hello Internet!

Wed Jun 4, 2014, 8:22 AM
As the title suggests, after 3 weeks being offline due to moving, we have the internet back.

We pretty much settled in straight away, the kids love the new house and we managed to unpack everything fairly quickly, mostly due to a lot of our stuff going into storage, only taking essential things to the current house.  My dad has almost finished work on the old house so we will be putting it on the market over the next couple of weeks.  After that it will be a waiting game to sell so we can then look for a bigger, better house.

Our current kitchen is tiny, as is the house.  We have the fridge, tv, computer and dryer all next to each other in the living room.  We also had to get rid of one of our sofas and do a lot of rearranging to get everything to fit in.  Apart from that and some random problems with the house the landlord needs to sort out we really like it here.  It is very quiet and has has all the essentials so makes for perfect temporary accommodation.

The size of the kitchen has meant though most of my baking and photography stuff is in storage so only basic baking and photography is all I can do until we move again,  I started baking again last week to test out the new built in oven which has turned out to be a very nice oven and easy to adjust too.

I have yet to check any messages here or do much online since getting the internet yesterday as I am still very busy with other things but I should slowly be becoming for active over the following weeks.

I hope you are all well and enjoying your hobbies, it sure is great to get back to doing mine again.

Hello everyone! It's been a long time since I've been on DA to speak to anyone or to post many things.  Today I can tell you why.

Firstly, a month ago my Grandma was admitted to hospital where they discovered she was very ill.  After being discharged from hospital she went into a care home.  Pretty much every day I took the kids in to see her, Grandma was always very happy yo see us as she was such a proud grandmother/great grand mother who had so much love and bought so much joy to those around her.  She sure was a fighter, the last time I saw her was Tuesday morning, that afternoon she was gone.  Now, my wonderful Grandma, a huge part of my life and big influence as to how a human being should behave, kind, gentle, loving and caring has been reunited with my Grandpa after twenty years apart and soon will be laid to rest next to him.
Here I share with you my most treasured photo of her and the only decent photo of all my family together taken on our wedding day, Halloween 2012 which also was her 82nd birthday.
Family by claremanson
It is a very sad time but I take comfort in knowing up until a month ago she was still always out and about visiting one person or another so she didn't have to suffer long.  She got to see me marry, have great grand children, have lots of friends and family who loved her very much and got to the very good age of 83 and a half.

Next, I am still struggling with my anxiety and depression so a lot of the time don't feel like baking, taking photographs or chatting.

Finally another reason for my absence, moving house.  Next Wednesday we are finally moving into rented accommodation while our current house gets sold and we buy a new one.  This means I will not be online for a good while, being temporary we may not bother getting the internet at all as we are only going to be there for 6 months to a year.  I will still have limited access to the internet on my phone so can post some photos from there though they won't be that great.  If you have any baking questions or just want to catch up I will be able to reply quicker if you message me on my facebook page as it's quicker and easier to check that when on limited internet usage so will be on there more.  Also to those of you I talk to a lot, with the exception of the past few months of course, you know who you are! I may add you to my personal facebook account, I post a lot about my family on there mind so it really will be just for those I talk to a lot as I am very protective over adding people I don't know when sharing such personal things, for you guys, inbox me your name or link and I will add you if you like as I really do miss chatting to a lot of you.

Firstly, thank you everyone for the Birthday wishes! I am one of these people who love everyone elses birthdays as I get to buy/make then presents and treats but hate the attention my own brings! Saying that, it turned out to be a good day! I spent the morning baking (No I didn't make myself a cake or get a cake) for my best friend and his girlfriend who are moving house so it's a little gift to them.  I also did a photoshoot of the same baked treats.  In the afternoon we went to the coffee shop for a hot chocolate but I ended up just getting a gluten free brownie which was amazing instead.  From my husband I got the collectors special edition box set of Sherlock, Metallica's Through The Never (which gave me goosebumps watching it! Loved it) I also got a "I am SHER locked" t shirt and some chocolates.  Lets not talk about the huge hideous Orchid my husband also got me.

Anyway on with the tagging from my best friend!

I was tagged by :iconshaami:
1) You must post these rules.
2) Each person has to share 10 facts about themselves.
3) Answer the 10 questions asked by the person who tagged you and make up 10 questions for the 10 you tag.
4) Choose 10 people and put their icons in your journal.
5)Go to their page and inform them that they have been tagged by you.
6) Not something like "You are tagged if you read that".
7) You have to legitimately tag 10 people.
8)No tag-backs.
9) You can't say that you don't do tags.
10) You MUST make a journal entry! No comments.

10 things about myself:
1. I am a daydreamer, I am always daydreaming!
2. I hardly own any movies! But have a huge collection of TV shows on DVD and Blu-ray.
3. I am gluten intolerant and slightly dairy intolerant to milk also.
4. I am very OCD about touching food! I hate touching food with my hands I am about to eat, even if I have just washed them I use a fork, spoon or napkin 99% of the time ever since I forgot to wash my hands one day as a teenager after being in the mud and was ill because of it after eating.
5. I have not eaten fish fingers in 7 years! Ever since I craved them in early pregnancy with my first daughter I can't touch them.
6. I collect Gothic ornaments and housewares such as skulls and dragons, TV and music memorabilia.
7. You have probably noticed this but, I am terrible at spelling and grammar! It was my weakest subject in school.
8. I have eye ducts the size of a babies so every time it is cold or windy my eyes always water, making it seem like I am upset so I am always getting stared at! I could try and get it fixed but it would involve a large rod being put up my nose and into my tear ducts!
9. I have two kids, Sarah (named from Sara Sidle, CSI which I watched a lot of when pregnant) Michele (after my late mum) and Sasha (I got from the actress who played Kate in NCIS) Corey (after Corey Taylor of Slipknot/Stone and yes she is a little monkey, we named her well!)
10. I currently have huge crushes on Benedict Cumberbatch (hence the birthday presents!) and James Hetfield of Metallica.

:iconshaami:'s 10 Questions:

  1. What is something that you used to dislike but like now? Honey, nutella and peanut butter! I tried it on bread and toast in the past and hated it! Now I use it for baking and on breakfast so love the stuff.  Most recently brownies, Mcdonalds brownies (the first brownies I ever tried) put me off brownies for years until I made some a few weeks ago.

  2. What was the last anime you watched? Dragon Ball Z (my husband has some of it on DVD and has been watching it with the kids) but I don't tend to watch much anime.

  3. Favourite main meal, dessert, and drink? Roast chicken, cheesecake and hot chocolate with whipped cream.

  4. Which season do you love the most?  Summer! We don't get enough of it here in England.

  5. Can you remember a dream you've had recently... What happened in it? Some woman was trying to kill me!

  6. If you could have any fictional character's outfit, who's outfit would you pick?   Catwoman, though I really do not have the figure for it! Too skinny!

  7. Pick a number you like and turn to that page number in one of your favourite books. What is the first sentence of that page? "I don't know how to explain what happened there."

  8. What's the scariest thing you've ever done? Became a parent!

  9. What have you learned today? I need new shoes as my feet are wet.

  10. Top 3 websites that you visit on a regular basis? DA, facebook and hotmail.

10 Of My Questions To Be Answered:

1. What are your quirks?

2. What was your favourite toy as a kid?

3. Do you collect anything?

4. What country would you most like to visit?

5. Who is your idol?

6. What was the last song you chose to listen too?

7. What is your favourite dessert? (I had to have a foodie question!)

8.  What is your least favourite food? (Okay, two questions!)

9. What skill/hobby would you most like to improve upon?

10. What are your top three favourite TV shows?

I tag...YOU!
:iconnaruto-ii: :iconxxblackengelxx: :iconannimouse: :iconluffynotomo: :iconsavaliste: :iconmelmee:
:iconcaballero-nocturno: :iconnerdsharpie: :iconstargatesg11: :iconalien-exile:

Also, if any of my tags do not wish to take part, that's fine with me. It's only a bit of fun and I'm not going to sulk in the corner or anything if you don't. Do whatever you like. =) (Smile)

Journal Entry: Fri Feb 7, 2014, 4:03 AM

Hello everyone! How are you all doing?

You may or may not have noticed I have gone a little quiet here on DA lately so thought I would give you a little update on the reason for my semi absence and why my inbox is full of new things to look at!

Firstly, just after Christmas I found out we can move house in a couple of months.  Not only will we be moving house once this year but twice! (long story) Anyway, since then I have spent most of the time sorting out the entire house and there is so much more that needs to be done!

Secondly, my anxiety is pretty bad, I think I may suffer from SAD also which is making it a lot worse. I am low, don't really want to go out, do any of my hobbies,  I am always tired and just have no energy for anything.  Thinking about it I get it every year as I am just a completely different person in winter than in summer but never has it been so bad as it is now.  Anxiety can make the condition worse so, now I am considering getting a special light box to see if that helps. If anyone uses a light box or know anyone that uses one please do tell me if it helps.

Lastly, last month I got a letter from my youngest daughters preschool asking for parents to volunteer to come in and do a session with the kids of any hobbies we had so, I  volunteered to do some baking with them today so have spent the past few weeks planning!

Last night it suddenly dawned on me I was going to go into a classroom of 20 odd kids aged between 2 and 5! I thought to myself what the heck was I thinking? Am I crazy? I have an anxiety disorder so going out of the house to do social things is a hard thing for me!

Well today was the big day.  I decided to make my 3 year olds favourite thing to bake with the kids, cookies! Sasha loves to get hands on with the cookie dough, cutters and icing.  That and the fact a couple batches of cookie dough is not only cheap, it goes along way (the kids got two each, one for snack time, one to take home)

The kids were great! In small groups, taking in turns for each job, they helped mix the dough, cut out the dough with cutters of their choice, waited patiently while they baked, then iced the cookies with different brightly coloured icing.

Some kids were really shy and barely said a word, one so shy she wouldn't do any baking at all! Others would not stop talking and were really into doing everything! And of course there was that one kid who ate his dough and spilled half the sprinkles all over the floor!!!!!

I am now home from the chaos that is preschool! Surprisingly, all in one piece, if a little tired and covered in flour and cookie dough but feeling brilliant! I got to share the hobby I love with a group of wonderful characters, some of which had never baked before, not even knowing what to do with the cookie cutters!

If just one of those kids goes home today and asks their family if they can bake again then my job for the day is done!

Being Christmas I wasn't sure I would get many entries so receiving 19 was a great surprise! I hope you all had as much fun baking as I did holding and judging the contest.

For those wondering if I will be holding any more contests in future.  It won't be for a very long time as not only will I be moving house once this year, I will be moving twice!

Onto the winners!

Christmas Igloo Cake by sparks1992
This was a beautiful entry! Very festive, the detail was wonderful, the skill brilliant and over all looks so cute! I also loved the fact so much time, effect and high quality was taken in making this as a gift to sparks1992 sister rather than a commission.

What I loved about this photo was, well everything! The cupcakes are so pretty and perfect as is the composition of the whole photo.  The use of white to make the photo feel cold and snow like.  The same goes for the gloves and being red has that extra festive element.

Most Creative Entry

75 points+mini journal feature

Dancing gingerbread men in snow globes!?! Need I say more! A brilliant creative take of your usual gingerbread men! The precision in detail of these cookies are incredible from the shadows to the shine and the amazing woodwork detail! When first seeing this entry I had to have a closer look to make sure they were actually cookies and not a painting or digital art!

Honorable mentions

It was tough choosing just three winners, there were so many great entries in presentation, skill, creativity, flavour and determination! (Yes maytel that last one means you! Crazy woman baking whilst possibly giving birth at any moment!) It was so tough I even had to consult my best friend Shaami for guidance!
