Hello! The Christmas holidays are over and the kids are back at school. This would normally mean getting back to baking but instead it means getting back to decorating our new house. The whole house which we moved into a month ago needs a complete make over, head to toe. We started the first rooms last week, the living and dining room. Gone with the 20 year old discoloured wallpaper that was peeling off the walls and on with the paint. We have chosen a colour called Muddy Puddle for the main colour, trust me it is a lot better than it sounds! A light browny/malty chocolatey colour that compliments the feature colour we are using either side of the chimneys called Teal Tension which is a very dark and rich teal. We probably have a couple more weeks left until it is all painted as not only did the walls need a lot of work (it was bare concrete and plaster under the wallpaper so never painted before so needed a lot of smoothing down and filler) but all the skirting
Merry Christmas!Hello! How is everyone? Long time no speak! As a lot of you know my family and I moved house on November the 29th so have been without the internet for a couple of weeks. On Friday we got it back. yay. The move went well, we are kind of experienced at the whole moving thing by now, it being the second time we have moved house in seven months. We have been here for a couple of weeks now, we are all starting to settle in nicely although it still doesn't feel quite like home yet and probably won't until we have decorated the house which we have started in the dining and front rooms by stripping off half the wallpaper. Those of you who follow my page on facebook will know I also bought a new cooker for the house and was really excited to started baking with it. Well, I have to say I am not disappointed, I love my new oven. The Christmas holidays begins here in a few days so I will be pretty much offline again for a couple of weeks while the kids are home until
Moving House! As some of you already know, six months ago we moved to a rented house while so we could sell our house and buy a new one. In September we were able to start house hunting. After just five days of actively looking and three different house viewings we found our house. My husband was shocked, I was also to be honest to find a house I liked so quickly, we thought it may take months as I am very picky but this house ticked most of the boxes and the rest were things I could compromise on in the grand scheme of things. My dad always said since the start we may be in a new house by Christmas, I just laughed at him, I never thought that would happen but he was right. We are moving just two minutes away from our current rented house. For the first time we get a grassed garden, we have always have paved courtyard gardens which the kids and I hated so as soon as I told them we have grass they were so happy. Next I told them even better news, they get their own
UpdatesHello everyone! How are you all doing? It's been a while since I've done this so I thought I would get you up to date with everything and why I am still only semi active here.Well, my youngest is now full time at school since starting in September, I thought that would mean more time for DA but it really hasn't turned out that way so far. On Tuesdays I've started counseling for my anxiety and depression, I know a lot of people who don't like to talk about and admit things like that but I think it's important to get it out there to show it's fine to ask for help if you need it, which I really have. Also for the past 4 weeks I have been going to a 10 week Positive Thinking group course on Fridays which has so far been really good and I've met some great people (I even took in some cake and cookies for them today which they loved, yay)Destiny came out last month on the PS4 so I have been glued to playing that, though it's getting a little boring and repetitive now.Even with all t
R.I.P Robin WilliamsI am totally stunned by the news of the passing of Robin Williams. I don't normally get very emotional about celebrities but I really am upset and shaken by this, lots of tears today. He was and will always remain a legend in so many ways. I grew up watching him in one of my favourite Disney movies as a kid, Aladdin and of course Jumanji, Hook, Mrs Doubtfire and so many other movies, he was so diverse I loved his comedy and serious roles. Even if I didn't like a particular movie he starred in very much he would always be awesome and would make it worth watching as he had such a great and unique voice and wonderful energy and talent. This morning the kids and I watched Robots, the first movie of his I could find as our little tribute to him.R.I.P Robin Williams, you will be sorely missed.
10 years of DA!That's right! Back on August 10th 2004 I joined Deviantart after an online friend showed me the site. At first I joined to submit my sketches and poems, most of which have long been deleted because they were so bad! Over the years I have tried so many art genres (some still remain in my gallery in various folders) before falling in love with baking and food photography a few years ago. I know I have been rather quiet on here over the past year, I'm still battling my demons of depression and anxiety, which has got so much worse since losing my Grandma in May. I have now got to the point where I am considering medication as I feel so ill all the time, the physical stress of anxiety and depression on my body makes me so tired and lightheaded all the time which means I have no energy or interest in baking or doing anything that involves a lot of walking around or being on my feet a
HolidaysThe six weeks holidays will be starting at the end of this week, that means I will be going rather quiet again on DA as I will have both kids at home with me so will have less time for DA.Everyone have a wonderful summer, keep up the good work and I will be back properly again the beginning of October once everything is sttled down with the new school year to catch up on everyone's uploads and messages. If you have any baking questions head on over and ask them on my facebook page where I receive notifications of messages on my phone so can get back to you a lot quicker as the kids will probably be hogging the laptop most days watching videos of Frozen on YouTube constantly.
Hello Internet! As the title suggests, after 3 weeks being offline due to moving, we have the internet back. We pretty much settled in straight away, the kids love the new house and we managed to unpack everything fairly quickly, mostly due to a lot of our stuff going into storage, only taking essential things to the current house. My dad has almost finished work on the old house so we will be putting it on the market over the next couple of weeks. After that it will be a waiting game to sell so we can then look for a bigger, better house. Our current kitchen is tiny, as is the house. We have the fridge, tv, computer and dryer all next to each other in the living room. We also had to get rid of one of our sofas and do a lot of rearranging to get everything to fit in. Apart from that and some random problems with the house the landlord needs to sort out we really like it here. It is very quiet and has has all the essentials so makes for perfect temporary accomm
UpdateHello everyone! It's been a long time since I've been on DA to speak to anyone or to post many things. Today I can tell you why. Firstly, a month ago my Grandma was admitted to hospital where they discovered she was very ill. After being discharged from hospital she went into a care home. Pretty much every day I took the kids in to see her, Grandma was always very happy yo see us as she was such a proud grandmother/great grand mother who had so much love and bought so much joy to those around her. She sure was a fighter, the last time I saw her was Tuesday morning, that afternoon she was gone. Now, my wonderful Grandma, a huge part of my life and big influence as to how a human being should behave, kind, gentle, loving and caring has been reunited with my Grandpa after twenty years apart and soon will be laid to rest next to him. Here I share with you my most treasured photo of her and the only decent photo of all my family together taken on our wedd

How to get noticed on deviantARTHi there! People asked me several times when I've became 'popular' on this site and in which way. I must admit I smelled a bit of envy in their tones, but the thing that troubled me more was that they didn't think that my work was worth all the pageviews I got over the years. Well, I wanted to explain this little thing right now... dA costed me a lot of work! It wasn't a 'BOOM! POPULAR!' thing at all for me.I had to study other people's methods too and to work hard on improving my art, and it wasn't easy. At all!So tonight I'm sharing with you some methods to get attention by dA community.Don't take them as unquestionable laws, just take them for what they are... Hints. They worked for me but they may not work for you.And now that you have a dA account... What should you do?► POST FINISHED ARTWORKS ONLYYour first post should be a fi

Collection: The Heartbeat of Modern MusicShare|ArchiveThe Heartbeat of Modern MusicFrom the days of Beethoven and Franz Liszt, to the Vaudeville stages of America in the1880s to the 1930s, to the electronic keyboards anchoring the rhythms of today’s rock groups and pop singers, the piano has been the heart of the music animating our popular entertainments. Not as sexy as the guitar, nor as brash as the drums, the pianos have been the steadying source of rhythm and timing holding together songs and other compositions for the past several centuries. And, oh yes, while not being so overtly sexy, pianos can be very romantic. Enjoy this gallery of the musician’s most basic dream machi

PE: Know your lineworkTraditional Art WeekWhen you like drawing, but seek for something stronger than pencil, ink might be a good choice. While it takes time to get used to it (like everything), it's not that hard when you learn the basics, and this article will focus on one of the common uses of ink - lineart.InkThe first thing that you need is ink. But what kind? Depending whether you plan to draw a lone ink drawing, or mix it with something else, there are different options for different ways of handling your picture. Here are the most common choices:Waterproof ink - is the most useful when you want to add a layer or layers of paint or water-diluted ink (with a brush) over your your lineart. Not waterproof ink, like Indian or China ink. It's suitable when your picture is 100% drawing and you don't plan painting over it (of course, you can go ahead and experiment with smudging it with water, but this article focuses just on the lineart).Coloured ink - whatever yo
