Still Life Stills Features: Festive FlavoursEveryone has their own idea of what is festive to them, I was going to feature just one flavour but there are so many i could not decide. What counts as festive varies greatly depending on family traditions, culture, taste and smell. This is what is festive to me. Chestnuts, peppermint, chocolate, orange, cranberry, cinnamon, mince pies, rum, brussel sprouts, stuffing, cheese and crackers, pickled onions, cheesecake and pigs wrapped in blankets. All these foods are a combination of my families tastes over the years rubbing off on me. What is festive for you?
Feature Time: Poppy DayRemembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day or Armistice Day) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth countries since the end of World War I to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. This day, or alternative dates, are also recognized as special days for war remembrances in many non-Commonwealth countries. Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November to recall the end of hostilities of World War I on that date in 1918. Hostilities formally ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month," in accordance with the Armistice, signed by representatives of Germany and the Entente between 5:12 and 5:20 that morning. ("At the 11th hour" refers to the passing of the 11th hour, or 11:00 a.m.) World War I officially ended with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on June 28, 1919.The red remembrance poppy has become a familiar emblem of Remembrance Day due to the poem "In Flanders Fields". These poppies bloomed across some of the worst battlefiel

Still Life Stills Features: AutumnAlready it is September and here in the UK the first signs of Autumn are beginning to show after a last ditch attempt at the sky trying to give us some decent sunshine this year. What to you defines the start of Autumn? Is it the weather, temperature, smell, trees, animals, food? For me this year it started with the sudden drop in temperature and the wind picking up. Then the skies started to darken and the first leaves fell. The biggest change for me this year though now that i am deeply into baking and food photography is the end of the summer baking. No longer are with summer berries for cool and refreshing desserts, instead is the turn of the warm and hearty. There is an interesting article on Autumn on Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autumn definitely worth checking out if you are an Autumn lover.
Still Life Stills Features: JewelleryPeople have been producing and wearing Jewellery for a long time now – with 100,000-year-old beads made from Nassarius shells thought to be the oldest known jewellery.Depending on the culture and times jewellery may be appreciated as a status symbol, for its material properties, its patterns, meaningful symbols or has no other purpose than to look appealing. The word jewellery itself is derived from the word jewel, which was anglicized from the Old French "jouel", and beyond that, to the Latin word "jocale", meaning plaything. In British English the spelling can be written as jewelery or jewellery, while in U.S. English the spelling is jewelry.full article can be found on good old Wikipedia! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewellery

Still Life Stills Features ChocolateCocoa mass was used originally in Mesoamerica both as a beverage and as an ingredient in foods. Chocolate played a special role in both Maya and Aztec royal and religious events. Priests presented cacao seeds as offerings to the gods and served chocolate drinks during sacred ceremonies. All of the areas that were conquered by the Aztecs that grew cacao beans were ordered to pay them as a tax, or as the Aztecs called it, a "tribute".The Europeans sweetened and fattened it by adding refined sugar and milk, two ingredients unknown to the Mexicans. By contrast, the Europeans never infused it into their general diet, but have compartmentalized its use to sweets and desserts. In the 19th century, Briton John Cadbury developed an emulsification process to make solid chocolate, creating the modern chocolate bar. Although cocoa is originally from the Americas, today Western Africa produces almost two-thirds of the world's cocoa, with Côte d'Ivoire growing almost half of it.Full article c

The Pixel Art CommunityWelcome to Pixel Art’s PE week! Firstly, I’d like to begin by discussing where we are in the Pixel Art community, where we came from and where we might head in the future. Why discuss the definition of Pixel Art?Why is it so important to discuss the definition of Pixel Art? It becomes important not only when it comes time to update the category’s description for the sake of organisation and clarity, but also when confusion and misconceptions become increasingly common among those in the community itself. As Pixel Art grew from being primarily used for old computer and gaming systems, that could not handle much data and therefore not too many colours per palette, into something used with more contemporary technologies like Photoshop and MSPaint, Pixel Art itself was bound to reflect those changes. This change has become apparent in new styles, new techniques and questions around the need for the “old rules” of past
Still Life Still Features: MusicJazz, country, punk, pop, dub step, blues, hip hop, dance, classical, rock and metal are just a very tiny selection of the many varieties of genres and sub genres of music that is all around us in the world. Unfortunately not everyone can understand or even choose not to except such diversity in the world. People who listen to gothic and/or metal music for example are often misinterpreted as being into satanism, drugs and all things dark and nasty causing bullying, violence and even murder in some very bad cases. On the lighter side, music can bring people together, whether it be through national anthems, memorials, church, concerts and festivals all are a way of connecting to the music and each other. Whether it is composing it, dancing to it or like me simply listening and absorbing it, music can really help you to deal with your problems and grow as a person. The only way you will ever find the genre that really awakens your soul is to listen to your heart, n
