Hello!

2 min read
I have just noticed I haven't updated my journal since Christmas 2017! Much has changed since then, I'm still baking and making YouTube videos, I just have less time for both as I have been doing other things.
In summary, last year we got a kitten called Oliver, some of you may remember me posting a photo of him when we got first got him as a kitten. He's doing well, it's his first birthday tomorrow already!
I'm still busy decorating the house. Four years we've been working on it now and we're still not done but all that's left now is the bigger jobs like getting a new kitchen, new flooring, doors and windows so I've moved my focus more onto the garden.
Talking of gardens, I absolutely love gardening. I hated it as a kid but now it is my favourite hobby, even over baking! Those of you who follow me on Instagram already know this but, I love gardening so much now that last month I finally decided to go for it and get my very first allotment. I have no idea what I'm doing, I am a complete beginner so have a lot to learn but I am loving it. That means I am going to be growing a lot of my own fresh fruit and veg to cook so expect to see some seasonal photos/videos popping up from me, including my latest post I've just added for a rhubarb crumble.
There's not much else to say really, if you fancy following my kinda uninteresting life come over to my Instagram Claremansonbakes to keep up to date with my baking, cat and gardening if that's your sort of thing.

For those of you wanting to do some Christmas baking this year, here are some of my favourite recipe videos put together in one place that make great gifts, all of which are simple and easy to make. This year I made the chocolate orange fudge again, everyone loved it!
Merry Christmas everyone, have a fantastic holiday.
Clare.

You can now find me on Instagram here www.instagram.com/claremansonb… as well as on twitter, Facebook and YouTube.
I've been meaning to make a public Instagram for ages as I take a lot of snap shots of my baking, gardening, decorating and of my collections that I love to share with other people with similar interests.
Yesterday I finally got round to making one after deciding to join the Funko Photo A Day challenge. If you are a Pop collector, I highly recommend it as it's is a lot of fun to do.

As some of you that have been following me for a while already know, a little over two years ago I moved into a fixer upper house which led me to be far less active as I used to be here on DA. I still adore baking, photography and making YouTube videos, it's just hard finding the time with so many things needing to be done.

Back along I wrote a couple journals entries, sharing photos of my garden and living room transformations. Since then I've decorated both my children's bedrooms, one of which twice due to using cheap white paint the first time around which discoulored to patchy yellow (we learn by our mistakes!) I have also stripped and painted the porch, passageway (several times!) and the bathroom.  Now, with one wall left to finish painting in my bedroom and a tiny strip of wallpaper left behind my fridge in the kitchen to sort out, I thought now would be a good time to share my progress as work on the house is finally starting to slow down.

First off my kitchen, okay so it's not exactly the brand new kitchen I want but it's a good start. Those who watch my YouTube videos will know I don't have a very nice kitchen. It's very practical and the perfect size, it's just old and looks hideous. Now the walls have been stripped, prepped and neutrally painted leaving a nice blank canvas to work with and one less job to do when we do get around to it. Unfortunately that won't be any time soon due to having to replace the entire bathroom suite next due to leaks and breakages but at least it's a step in the right direction.

Next, one of my favourite transformations yet, my bedroom fireplace. Back in October, I was so excited to see what was hiding behind the wallpaper on my bedroom chimney wall when I started stripping it. I was so sad to discover a stripped hole filled with bricks and rubble. My dad said to just brick it up and leave it be but after the lovely job my dad made of the fireplace in my living room the previous year, I was not going to give up on it that easily!
One day, 12 buckets and lots of soot later (I had soot up my nose for 3 days after!) I manged to clear out the hole. To my relief, behind all that mess the inside wall was mostly fine. Then began a month of debating what to do with the space. Living in a victorian house, I've always wanted a cast iron fireplace but brand new ones cost a ton of money! My dad had previously spotted an old rusty cast iron fireplace at our local reclamation yard, the way he described it, sounded awful but I went along to see it anyway. I'm so glad I did, I fell in love with it straight away, just as I did this house. I have a very creative mind so saw it's potential instantly. I cleaned it up and painted it while my dad built a surround for it out of pieces of wood and some wooden shelf brackets. To finish I added a glass bowl with some Christmas lights in the grate.

Now all that is left to do is replacing all the kitchen units, stripping and painting the stairs, a new bathroom suite, getting the patio sorted out in the garden, new carpet/flooring everywhere and new windows and doors.

Garden Makeover

2 min read
First off, apologies for my lack of activity here recently, the past month has consisted of illness going round everyone in our house so I haven't baked at all but I do have a couple of bakes lined up over the next few weeks so should have something to share soon.

Onto the net reason for my lack of baking, decorating! The last journal I wrote I shared my living room make over.  Today my dad and I finished my garden shed make over and I could not be happier with it.
At the beginning of the year I was clueless on how to make the monstrosity pretty so I turned to a Facebook gardening group for suggestions and my goodness they delivered! Thanks to all the lovely gardeners on there It wasn't long before my plan for my very English county cottage shed idea came to mind, which to be honest didn't take much planning as I live in a very small town which is surrounded by villages. Today, many months on and a lot of painting later, the final piece, the window box went up, completing the transformation, my monstrosity is now my sanctuary.
